The Centre for Women´s and Gender Studies at Athabasca University, Canada´s largest distance university, invites applications for a 12 month contract position, beginning 1 November 2010, in the history of feminist thought. The successful candidate will work with Professor Donica Belisle to develop a fourth-year History and Women´s Studies undergraduate distance and online course called "Famous Feminists and Their Times."

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, selecting primary documents in the global history of feminist thought, 1400 to 1940; selecting scholarly readings; devising course assignments; writing course units; creating multimedia online content (support is provided); working with a course production team; and delivering materials on pre-arranged dates.

To be eligible for this position, applicants must hold a Ph.D. in History, Women´s Studies, or a related discipline.Current doctoral candidates with specializations in feminist history and thought are also encouraged to apply.

Applicants must demonstrate expertise in the global history of feminism, 1400 to 1940, and should be prepared to discuss the ideas, lives, and historical contexts of such figures as Christine de Pizan, Mary Wollstonecraft, Kishida Toshiko, and Sojourner Truth. Preference will be given to applicants with strong publishing records as well as to applicants
with demonstrated abilities to produce deliverables on time. Experience in distance and online course development is an asset but is not required.
