Convoluted Who Speculation
May. 16th, 2010 01:01 pmIt's kinda awesome watching a show "in real time". Every other show I've watched has been over for about five years.
I didn't terribly care for this episode, but there was a throwaway line in it that made me go "hmmm". The "skipping time tracks" line. And I began to wonder a bit about what's going on with Amy not knowing/remembering about the Daleks, which have been all over the UK for the past four years.
So, I see there being two timetracks, right? One where the Doctor came back "five minutes later" for wee!Amelia Pond, and the other where he came back 12 years later.
But then I started thinking about the bit with her forgetting the Daleks.
When the Doctor was confronting the Big Eye Alien in "The Eleventh Hour", and demanded "check who's been protecting this planet!", they totally showed images of the Daleks and all that jazz. So obviously at that point the Daleks happened.
I see two possibilities: First, the Daleks have since been eaten by the Crack, and "never existed". Since there seems to always be three Daleks who survive whatever apocalypse happens to the Daleks I guess I can buy this.
Second: There's three time tracks, not two. This is the one that's probably way too convoluted, but whatever - I'm enjoying myself. Moffat, evil though he may be, is not going to mind me sitting here thinking too hard about his evil show.
So, there's Time Track A, where the Doctor goes and fetches wee!Amelia as a child.
There's Time Track B, where the Doctor goes to see Amy 12 years later, and then comes back later that same day to pick up Amy.
There's Time Track C, where the Doctor comes back two years afterwards to pick up Amy, who is about to get married. And in Time Track C, there were no Daleks.
I wonder if Amy's ultimate choice is going to have to be between whatever happens on Time Track A, and whatever happens on Time Track C. (And, if there is a Time Track B, that too.) I think she's going to be forced to choose between having been with the Doctor since she was wee!Amelia, and marrying Rory.
Because somehow those will be the only two options available to her. I've noticed that Who!Companions in New!Who end up in ~Relationships~ eventually. (Rose, of course, with 10.5, Martha & Mickey, although originally it looked like she was going to be with Tom, and Donna and... bad fan, I can't remember the name of her husband.) (There's nothing wrong with being in a relationship - I'm in one, it's kinda awesome - but I really want there to be a bit more to it than that. Plus, she always seems to awkward with Rory, like she's not really all that into him, and it makes me sad. I love people that I cannot be in a relationship with, and that doesn't make me love them any less.)
I really want Moffat to not do that, but I think the guy's Happily Ever After always involves a white picket fence and a dog, so who knows.
As I say, idle speculation. Now I'm off to Ysa's place to bake lots of bread and talk about boys.
