Distraction!!!

I'm terribly anxious about my thesis proposal defense which is silly because it'll go 20 minutes if it runs long, and I know what they're going to ask, and Dr T wouldn't let me go into it if I didn't have a good thesis proposal, and everything will be fine but *panic panic panic* nonetheless.

Look! ASL vids!

This one's by a Hearing person in an ASL class.

Alicia Key's Unthinkable. I couldn't sort out how to embed this one.

I really like all of these, but I think it's.... telling... how many of them are by Hearing people taking ASL courses. The Vestibeats ones I've done in the past, and (I think) this one to Unthinkable are by Deaf people.

I did look for Deaf Show Choirs but most of my hits were religious choirs or things referencing Glee. *sigh* This looks interesting, though.

Anyway. Time to shower and get my cute self going. AAAAA! AAAA! AAAAAAAA!

When my siblings took their ASL classes (at various places), they all had to translate lyrics of songs into ASL and then perform them for the camera in a music video. This was many years ago (15/20?). I always figured it was the standard class project for ASL classes for the hearing.

... now that I think about it, most of the ASL I came across from hearing people was connected to music. Taps, choir songs, baby songs... Maybe it's a hearing thing?

*sends you lots of good energy for the proposal defense*

When my Mom took her ASL class some 30 years ago, they had to do this too. The teacher explained it was to help the students learn to be fluid and expressive, because so many hearing people are concentrating so hard on the signs they get stiff and blank-faced.

Well, they had to perform a song (Mom did "You Are My Sunshine") but not record it on video, what with this being the early 80s when video cameras weren't so cheap.
