Although I must say, Who is fun to watch with Katie and
emee. Tonight's lack of Emmy has made me very sad.
I had such deep thoughts on the walk home, but I'm not sure how deep they are anymore. But a few things:
- The "Amy & Rory from 10 years on" thing getting dropped RIGHT AWAY struck me as a bit too much look at me, I'm important later. What I'm wondering is if it's going to come up in Part 2, or if it's going to be part of the over-plot of "Doctor crossing his own timeline".
- Interestingly, I actually thought they were going to "kill" Amy. It would be an interesting end-game of the season had she died, and the Doctor went crossing his own timeline in an intense and "mad man in a blue box" way of fixing the problem. My mind flashed to all sorts of ways that the Doctor's attempts to "save" Amy from death could have led to The Crack. But, it looks like Amy lives, which is good, because I like Amy.
... Hmmm, I wonder if the "Rory puts her engagement ring in a special place" bit has to do with the time-line crossing plot. And these Ten-years-on Amy & Rory folks are going to...
I don't know. I need to read people's theories.
- The whole Amy-Rory relationship is so... not working for me. And I'm not sure if it's not supposed to work for me or if it is and I'm just not feeling it. I'm not sure if you're supposed to think "Amy & Rory are totes perfect for each other, but Amy hasn't realised that yet" or if you're supposed to read Amy's reluctance about her relationship with Rory as being a big warning sign that their relationship isn't really met to be. I don't know. I still think Amy's Choice is going to really be between the timeline she marries Rory and the timeline she doesn't.
- Speaking of which, I could really do with a bit less heterosexual agenda in this show. I'm not fond of a lot of the ways that RTD treated his GLTB characters (by which I mean that almost every single lesbian was evil, there were offensive trans* jokes in Torchwood, etc), but there were a lot of background gay characters (and I mean gay as in gay men). Everyone this season in anything approaching a relationship is in a heterosexual one. I miss "my brother and his husband". Even if they were only in the background, at least they were there.
- I'm deeply afraid Eliot's dyslexia is going to end up a Plot Point instead of Interesting Background Information. I suppose as long as he doesn't end up an evil mastermind out to get revenge on the non-dyslexic world, or a screaming example of horror that parents should never be forced to live with, Eliot will be a step up from all other depictions of disability in Who.
....Wow, that is so sad.
I'm sure I had something else deep & meaningful about the Meta-plot of time-crossings, but now I can't remember what it was. Ah well. It's not like my thoughts on the show are somehow Unique.
I can't wait for the Moffat episodes. So far everything this season not written by Moffat has just not gripped me. They aren't bad, but they haven't been good, either.
