So, a coffee shop moved in to my beloved tea shop. I miss my tea shop, deeply, but I also like having a place to drink hot drinks that's air conditioned and has tables and stuff, and thus, here I am.

And I got used to being around people who though "Accessibility matters!". I'm really missing that especially right now.

Noting that I've already asked people to stop putting the table out front so it blocks the only way for a wheelchair to get into this building (both this store and the one next door) twice, and both times people have said "Oh, yeah, that's important" and then not moved it until I've said "Look, my husband will be here soon, and he'd like to get in your shop, kk?", I ask this question:

Unfortunately, it is. I got written up for "not properly greeting a customer" - I was serving a Deaf lady I knew, and everything was conducted in a non-verbal manner because that's what I was used to with her - so rather than saying "Hi, how can I help you?" I just waved and smiled, and put a hand to the bags instead of saying "Do you want any help with your packing?"

She actually sought me out when she was shopping. But I got written up because I gave the customer what she wanted, rather than sticking with the pre-written script.

Wow, that sucks! Sounds like a case of rigid bureaucracy getting in the way of common sense.

Yeah, the manager was one of those types - everything had to be done the way the book said. Even when it ran counter to common sense. She also tried to write me up for serving a family in German, but big boss overruled her there. (Fairly lousy German, I'm not very good, but their English was worse than my German. So we switched.)
