Despite everything else, Katie & Emmy & Don and I went out and did Anna's Birthday Party. This year I decided to have a dessert crawl, so over 5 hours we went to 4 restaurants, had 3 desserts (each), Emmy & I had 2 martinis (each) and we all shared an order of carbohydrates at the last place because wow.... sugar crash.

We talked about my thesis (of course), Don's family (to be expected), fandom (oh fandom), Really Epically Bad Fic Of Legend (I quoted lines from memory), and then sort of devolved into random discussions of sci-fi before we all slipped into grunting because the sugar was leaving our systems.

On top of having spent a delightful afternoon with Ysa, this has been a lovely birthday. I love being old enough to not give a damn what other people think of my silly birthday plans.

Tomorrow morning Don leaves to be with his family, and I will be back at work. I'm looking forward to the back-at-work part. Don will be back on August 3.
