I think Don's hiding....
Aug. 25th, 2010 08:17 pmI'm a terrible mood. My thesis is going no where, the semi-annual "Everything bad about Canada is in Alberta" thing has started up again (even though in the same article the stats cited indicated that the situation was worse in Manitoba and Saskatchewan and no I'm not getting into it), the weather is still terribly hot and humid, Don's still sick and is probably going to die or shrink in the wash or something, I don't even know, and someone said something stupid on Tumblr and now I hate everyone.
Except you. You are awesome.
Let us speak of awesome things.
I started a
halifax_ns community last night. It has two members, and I know both of them. (Because one of them is me.) Join! Pass the word! Share things! Yay!
These Choice Of games are amusing me to no end this week. I have brought down a King! I have also become a Dragon Queen. They're fun, but Collecting All The Endings is a bit much. And yet, I want all the endings.
I really enjoy the blog The Quack Doctor, which highlights various medical treatments in the past. They can be a little gross (top of the page right now is "tape worms"), but very informative. I enjoy it because, you know, medical history.
Speaking of awesome blogs I have been following: Shitty First Drafts is highly recommended for new, current, or recovering Grad Students. Tanya Roth is also writing about grad school, specifically the process of editing her dissertation right now. Five Years Down, Nine Months To Go made me feel especially good about how my thesis is kicking my ass right now, because it is a process.
Eh, that's the extent of my Good. Who has Good Stuff to share?

Date: 2010-08-26 01:35 am (UTC)Eh, Alberta has my pint-sized, adorable faced little cousin living in it, so no WAY it's that bad. Okay, so the exposed flesh warnings are a bit much, but no place is perfect. ;-p
Mostly I think these statistic quoting articles are complete bunk, but then again I live in NFLD and love every second of it, seal-smacking, screech swilling, welfare bum that I am. *g*
So, y'know, fuck 'em. Alberta rules.

Date: 2010-08-26 03:35 am (UTC)I HAVE AN OFFICE, ANNA. I don't have to sit at the front desk! I don't have to answer phones! I am tucked away in the corner of a large and empty room only used for videoconferences, student council, and staff meetings. I can listen to music as I work! I have my own phone extension and voicemail box!
And today I helped edit our intake interview to make it clearer so we get better, more accurate information from our students. Did I mention, about our students, that our smallest graduating class was 4 people, our average was 10, and our largest was 16... except last June we had TWENTY-SIX graduates? And one of our former students is entering his second year of university!
I have directions once the registration rush is over to research classroom teaching methods for students with FASD. And I get PAID to read Introduction to Working with Adult Survivors of Childhood Trauma: Techniques and Strategies.
I could even put it down on the school expense account.
*bliss*

Date: 2010-08-26 05:57 am (UTC)It made me happy then. It made me so happy today, I read it four times in a row, and then I typed all the words into my journal. They're under a cut. They're awesome.

Date: 2010-08-26 03:34 pm (UTC)And sweetie, your thesis will come out fine in the wash. Unlike Don, who may shrink. I promise. *hugs*
I don't have much good stuff to share right now, because I'm feeling exhausted and overwhelmed myself. Although I DID just get new windows in the house, and I can look forward to good food at the croquet banquet tonight (although I'm going to spend two hours being scolded by an 86-year-old woman for being too tired to go to a concert this weekend), and I found out that the Fat Green Chicken DOES actually move around during the day. So yay?
