While it's on my mind
Sep. 26th, 2010 05:46 pmA friend was looking for a list of Canadian-centric blogs.
Although I lost my Big Folder of Canadian Blogs in the Google Chrome Crash of This Summer (woe), here is a short list from my feed reader. I will try and generate another list in a week or so.
Rabble "was built on the efforts of progressive journalists, writers, artists and activists across the country. We launched rabble on April 18, 2001, just before the protests against the Summit of the Americas in Quebec City, and leapt onto the Net with the kind of coverage you could only get from the point of view of the rabble. We have covered events and issues in ways you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else ever since." I don't like their main page at all - too busy - but they do have an RSS feed.
Finding My Feminism: "I'm a liberal feminist atheist about to finish my law degree. I am pro-choice, pro-socialized medicine, and I am intolerant of intolerance." She's been focusing a lot on the Gun Registry debate lately, and calling out politicians who say that domestic violence isn't really a crime. She is also @athiestinCanada on Twitter
Ms Marx on Pop Culture: "Critiques of pop culture and commentary on life experiences." I have this in my feed reader and do check it out regularly, but I admit, not much about it is jumping out at me right now in terms of Canadian content.
Civil Rights Now! "Lack of effective public policy and political will has allowed Canadian institutions at all levels to deny Canadians with disabilities equal access to full citizenship as guaranteed in our Charter. Despite what our politicians tell us and the rest of the world, systemic discrimination is an everyday reality in Canada for most of us living with a disability." Primarily focused on British Columbia disability rights stuff, which is not a criticism.
Sister Sage's Musings "was born out of my frustration for corporatist media of today and its’ slant to the right. It’s too Harpercon friendly." I've only just started reading this and have no opinion at the moment.
Those Emergency Blues is written by a Toronto Emergency Department RN. I really enjoy her posts, some of which touch on the political, many of which don't.
Neville Park "I love strangeness, whether it’s found in science fiction or in social justice. I love that which teaches me to experience the world in rare and unexpected and challenging ways." Toronto-area blogger who writes about social justice issues, disability, and science fiction.
The Dominion "The Dominion is a monthly paper published by an incipient network of independent journalists in Canada since May 2003. It aims to provide accurate, critical coverage that is accountable to its readers and the subjects it tackles. The Dominion can be read online, or delivered to your doorstep." I haven't been reading the Dominion lately because I haven't really had the time. This may change now that I realise they have an RSS feed.
Shameless Magazine has a blog! I like the magazine itself a bit more than the blog.
