If you're wondering why I may not trust my university to keep accessibility issues in mind when planning events.

I've just ducked out of the event that is currently being hosted, in part, by the group of people that will be working together in order to highlight accessibility issues on campus.

There's a reception! There's food!

The food for the reception is down the only flight of stairs in the entire public area of the building.

Said the event organizer, who is one of the people who agrees that accessibility issues on campus are a problem: "Oops."

Not that there's anything she can do about it at this stage. But really: Even with the best of intentions, these things get forgotten. And yet, people think I should trust them to remember.

As someone who periodically organizes large public events: when someone points this stuff out to you, you do NOT say, "Ooops," you say, "I beg your pardon, you are absolutely correct, I will fix that." And then you grab a couple of warm bodies and you move the food service.

yeah, because it's SO hard to ask some of the people without mobility issues to step up and help move things. takes 5-10 minutes and then the food is accessible.

Wow that really sucks! You can tell them from real-name me that they need to think about it and also make it clear for their events what the accessibility is if they want to be inclusive... or have PWD take them seriously. My god I hate that stuff.
