"Ennui" sounds so much nicer than "I'm sad and don't want to do any more work ever again", yes?

Please tell me fun things, or link me to cute pictures? I'm going to try and work diligently on my SSHRC proposal edits for the next few hours.

I don't know how much you go fannish over Doctor Who, but last night, someone on my Friends list posted this clip from the new DVD set that somehow ended up on the cutting room floor.

Even if you've never watched a minute of Doctor Who, I bet this will cheer you up:

The new companion, Amy, asks questions after seeing the inside of the TARDIS for the first time

Yay! I'm glad you love Amy. Every sensible person is in love with Amy.

I've watched this clip nearly a dozen times, already, and it's still making me grin in my face.

The Daily Kitten claims to have 'the world's cutest kittens' but I strongly suspect this claim has not been subjected to rigorous scientific testing, a la Kittenwar!, which takes the business of determining kitten cuteness very seriously. Rate My Kitten takes a vintage, Hot Or Not? approach. There is also, of course, the simple, clean lines of The World Famous Random Kitten Generator.

A colleague of mine rescued a kitten from a mud puddle, nursed it back to health, and found it a good home. Pictures!

Okay, here is something totally awesome:

I went to New England Webcomics Weekend today and got to meet Danielle Corsetto, who writes Girls With Slingshots. And I bought the fourth book (the cover has the wedding storyline) and told her that that was when I started reading because of your post for FWD about Melody and Soo Lin and how they are good portrayals of PWD, and Danielle was THRILLED. I should really have written down the blog address but she definitely seemed very happy to hear that you had recommended it. <333

He is! And he's so playful, more like a puppy than a kitty. His youtube channel has all sorts of videos, like this one of him sliding into a box (one of his favorite activities). ♥♥♥

Well, now that you are familiar with Maru, you will get the lyrics of The internet is made of cats, which is a FACT and also science.

I have a Bread Curse. Yeast hates me. I can only get loaves to rise by use of elaborate cantilevered structures and long trials of repeated failures. So then I thought, I'll buy a breadmaker! I'll be a poor student who makes her own bread by dumping a bunch of ingredients in a machine and walking away!

...My bread curse has caught up with me.

Overflowing loaf sez: "Hello? Can I come out to play now?"

Oooh, let me x-post from my own journal: a compendium of nit-picks re: anachronistic turns of phrases

You Can't Say That

for example
 begin quote leper
This wasn’t used as a synonym for “an untouchable person” until the mid-20th century. Before that (from 1387), it was a person suffering from the disease, and before that (from 1250), the disease itself. (This transfer of disease name to a patient is unique, presumably because the /-er/ ending was mistaken as an agent form, but this didn’t happen to “cancer”.)
 quote ends

Fun things - well, not actually a fun thing, but: my flatmate is interested in writing a guest post for FWD about her experiences with Melbourne's psychiatric services. How can I hook her up? (She's currently in hospital, with total computer time limited to maybe an hour whenever her mother comes in with a laptop, so I'm running interference for her.)

She's gone from totally believing that all Australia's psychiatric services need is more money, to believing that the system's completely fucked up and dysfunctional from the top down, and needs radical change, in the space of about a month. I think she has information other people should hear.
