Delicious ending? :( Diigo stuff
Dec. 16th, 2010 05:55 pmI backed up all of my bookmarks to Diigo a while ago. Diigo! It will import everything from Delicious should you wish, and it can also mirror delicious for you so you can maintain a delicious account until delicious goes down.
Diigo, I note, does not play well with DW. I have to C&P links into Diigo rather than using the Diigolet for DW links. It works fine with LJ.

I have thousands of bookmarks saved, archiving every single entry ever made at
Yahoo is horrible and I want them to die slowly. *fumes*

Date: 2010-12-16 10:14 pm (UTC)I set it up to do everything privately because part of why I was doing it was it was right after my prof had accidentally sent out my username to a student, but you don't have to.

Date: 2010-12-16 10:50 pm (UTC)Yeah, I use Diigo for my academic bookmarks too, but Delicious is where I've been setting up disability-related bundles and I'm so damned pissed off.

Date: 2010-12-16 11:59 pm (UTC)You said it's the diigolet that has trouble with the dreamwidth bookmarks, so does that mean importing everything from delicious has worked out well for you? Because I can always write my own applet/extension, but if if doesn't like them on the site itself, there's not much I can do.
(found through a google search-- everyone seems to have taken this as gospel truth!)

Date: 2010-12-17 12:04 am (UTC)The Diigolet has made it difficult for me to add new bookmarks from Dreamwidth. (That is, I can't have it autopopulate the link formation the way it can for LJ.) But I can just C&P the url and the title into the diigolet when I want to do that. It also may be fixed - I haven't even bothered trying in a long time. But there's no problems with the actual links themselves.

Date: 2010-12-17 12:09 am (UTC)And was it speedy back when you did it? Apparently it's going very slowly for the comm mod I'm researching for, but I was assuming that was because of the server strain.

Date: 2010-12-17 01:32 am (UTC)I haven't tried importing bookmarks to diigo, since I've just been using it as a private catalog all of the fic I read this year, so IDK if importing dreamwidth links works.

Date: 2010-12-17 01:48 am (UTC)This is my Very Very Small (because I haven't gotten around to using it much) Fandom Diigo: http://www.diigo.com/list/iliketea
I've got a few lists, most of which only have one or two things on them. Is that helpful?

Date: 2010-12-17 01:58 am (UTC)I think this one is mostly private ATM, but it totally has more tags and the like, if you want to poke more: http://www.diigo.com/user/annaoverseas

Date: 2010-12-17 10:10 pm (UTC)And it looks like we may not have to move after all! It looks like Yahoo plans to sell Delicious, rather than shut it down.

Date: 2010-12-17 03:23 am (UTC)I like the Pinboard focus on fast, simple, secure online bookmarking. (I notice that none of Diigo's promotional "Join now" stuff makes any mention of privacy or data security at all.) Oh, and one other little detail that I like with Pinboard is the option of making newly-added bookmarks private by default which I always thought it was unforgivably manipulative of Delicious to not provide. Of course, I was a very light Delicious user and I didn't actually use tag bundles (which Pinboard doesn't support) or get a lot of mileage out of the "social" aspect of it (which Pinboard does offer, and with better privacy options, such as private-by-default, and having certain tags private even on a shared bookmark).

Date: 2010-12-17 03:37 am (UTC)If it had been a recurring subscription cost, that probably would have put me off quite effectively, but yeah... even with a modest one-off signup fee, it ain't the same as free.
