Did you know that the folks behind Glee were explicitly invited to a best practices panel on disability at a major industry conference in Hollywood this past summer and turned them down?

Because, I guess, actually working with people with disabilities in the industry to talk about representation and stuff is too much work for someone getting awards for diversity while publicly mocking disability rights advocates and activists who have talked about the problems with Glee and representations of disability.

I will have more details about this later.

Will Shuester should be the poster model for PDD.

Took me a while to figure that one out. I think it's worth spelling out in full, especially in disability spaces, because to many (most?) of us that means "Pervasive Developmental Disorder", and at first I thought you were being horrifically offensive.

Considering its origins it might be best not to say "poster boy/child/girl" at all. I'm not offended and don't require an apology, it's just a thought--poster children are those sad-eyed pathetic looking disabled, poor or third-world children that specious charities and proselytising missionary orgs use in their promotional materials to beg for money.

I'm not either. Why would we be.

I watch this show because I love Kurt and Mercedes and I think Brittany is all kinds of hilarious, and also because my friends like it and I want to know what they're talking about--but the rest of it just kind of really deeply annoys me or offends me.

Am so not surprised, at all. Wouldn't want someone telling them that disabled actors should play disabled characters.
