Katie and Emmy made me watch the final two episodes of White Collar because Katie hates me and Emmy likes watching Katie torment me.

I just-- NO. NO. You do not eat food in an archive! You do not have sex against the closed stacks in an archive! You do not go into an archive with "Well, I have a vague physical description of this dude, and know he landed in 1946 at Ellis Island, but I don't have a name or anything else!" (Okay, yes, people do that. But NO. NO.)

I-- Thing--- No! Closed stacks! No other researchers! food in the archives omg.

Now I am dead. DEAD.

dead.

:(

archives woe.

I REMEMBER WATCHING AND GOING "LOL ARCHIVES DO NOT WORK LIKE THAT."

And then I got distracted by makeouts, because I am shallow. And not an archivist or proper researcher anymore. XD

I keep trying to sort out the plot of White Collar which is probably why I am doing White Collar wrong.

I hear it works a lot better if you focus on the hot of White Collar. /shallow

That said, I probably would've yelled, too.

Yeah, I kinda fail at White Collar because I find neither of the male leads particularly appealing. *sigh* Why can't we have a bunch of episodes where Elizabeth, Dianna, Sarah, and June go on awesome adventures wearing stunning outfits? WOE IS ME.

It's a Polanski film anyway, but never watch The Ninth Gate. The things you mention above PLUS smoking on the rare books! Also, a terrible movie in general.

There's not enough aaaaaaargh in the world, but this sort of thing is just so common. I once did a ranty post about the number of mysteries/thrillers I'd read which were killed stone dead in the water if you had any knowledge whatsoever of how archives/rare book collections actually work, with bonus points for institutions at which I've actually worked which the writer has clearly never visited (or not actually used as a, well, researcher, as opposed to admiring the architecture).

There is also worrying trend of TV programmes doing things about family/historical research to do things, or try to do things, presenting archives which thick an archivist's blood with cold. If the person looking at a tithe map in the middle of a windy field was really using a facsimile, I think we should have been told. Because I suspect every member of the Society of Archivists who watched that programme immediately buzzed off a communication to the head of the repository in question going 'O No You Didn't, Did You? What were you thinking?'

this! I'll admit, I love White Collar a lot, but the thing is, the characters who are in the archive, *they should know better*. I refuse to believe that either of them has not spent a large amount of time in archives (possibly for illegal purposes, but whatever) But the way Neal just shoves everything back in the folder?!?!? Augh

I actually thought of you watching that scene! (and, er, laughed--sorry)

The scene is quintessential White Collar--gorgeous set, gorgeous people, silly dialogue, incomprehensible plot and no bearing on reality whatsoever.

That is a great summary of White Collar. I wish I could just shut off my brain and enjoy the show, but I keep arguing with the plot.

Katie made a whole post laughing at me so you all should form a mean persons club or something with Emmy. MY LIFE IS SO HARD.

♥ I have to say, the best part of Angels & Demons was the audible gasp the entire theatre made when Tom Hanks ripped the page out of the super-valuable ancient manuscript.

I feel your pain.

Oh, that happened when we saw it too! (We went because it was a bad week and I knew it was filmed in Rome and I will pay stupid money to see Rome on the big screen.) I ranted about that to poor Don, who keeps laughing at me because he is mean.

I was just heartened that everyone else was as horrified as I was. (To be honest, the movie annoyed me far, far less than the book, mainly because they cut the ridiculous author wishfulfillment romance with the superhot 20-something nuclear physicist fashion model.)
