trouble: XKCD: Late? It's barely 3 a.m.! (3 a.m.)
Don Update:

First, Don has been sick, still or again or something, we're not really sure. He headed off to the throat doctor this morning about his frozen vocal cord, then came home and cancelled his other doctor's appointment and slept till almost 7. He's a bit better now.

Me Update:

clean all the things? :( )

Now I am drinking tea, and Don is reminding me that we're well after 3 a.m. here in Halifax so I should be an adult and go to bed. Sleep is like ice cream, tempting but a bit scary.

trouble: Princess Leia - "You don't have the buns to be Princess Leia" (buns)
Don shaved his head.

There is a pile of hair in my bathroom sink.

I just added this to my email signatures:

Please Note: My access to the internet is such that I will only be able to respond to emails after 11 p.m. GMT (7 p.m. AST)

You may be thinking "Oh, this will be like last school year, where Anna writes that but doesn't actually mean that because she's constantly online anyway. Alas, no. I'm going to start actually turning off my internet access during the day. I'm finding it way too distracting (just a little bit of Echo Bazaar! Oh, and I'll check my reading list. And I have to check the modqueue. Oh, and email. And tumblr. And maybe twitter. I wonder if my turns have refreshed on EBZ yet.... Huh, the day's done. What did I do today?), and while I'm certain there are people happy to snicker at my lack of self control, whatever. Internet is going off. Hopefully this will lead to Thesis Completion: 100%.

Getting Rid Of All The Things hasn't been going according to plan this week, woe. However, we have revised the plan accordingly, and I think we'll still be on schedule for Getting Rid Of All The Clothes for Friday. Yay! (Not all the clothes, obviously. Just the not wanted ones.) Books are still everywhere, but that's for next month.

I sent Don out to get me cake, and he did not get me cake. We should all shun him now.

I found this post on heading back to university interesting.

My wee lappy-top is driving me up the fucking wall. I hope whatever device you use to access the internet is not doing the same to you. Rather than risk rage-tossing it through the nearest window, I'm going to think about the tasty foods that are on my cooking agenda for the coming week.

Don's home from Out West.

He looked like a cyclone hit him, some of which I have managed to repair but I suspect sleeping in his own bed and having a safer space in which to be sad will be helpful to the rest of his recovery. That I am incredibly unlikely to suggest a steak house for dinner (him being vegetarian and all) is also likely to be helpful. (Yes this actually happened, and yes everyone involved knew Don was a vegetarian, and no it wasn't the only food option even on the same block.)

[personal profile] lizbee linked to Wiki's take on the Australian History Wars, and although I've only so far managed to skim read the main points, I'm a bit distressed at how similar it is to the Canadian History Wars. I'm not surprised by any stretch. (If I felt like I was up to finding some sort of balanced discussion of them, I would link you to it, but since I have Opinions on this matter - and since Opinions on this matter are the sorts of things that Get One In Trouble and I will be looking for a job at some point in the future - I'm afraid you'll just have to believe me. Or ask a Canadian historian who killed Canadian history. Or wait until I get riled up about it again and throw caution to the wind. It should only take a few days.)

And [personal profile] bcholmes has reminded me & Don that, according to our current government, we are not classed under "Canadian". This makes perfect sense now that Don has renewed his Dutch passport. (Also, apparently the Conservatives do agree that most rapes go unreported and that this is a problem? That's awesome! They will, of course, immediately put more funding into programs that deal with that problem, yes? I should call someone up tomorrow and get them right on that.)

I'm exhausted. My husband is home. Life is better.
trouble: "Being in Fandom is like being in 2nd grade forever" (Fandom = 2nd Grade)
Katie & [personal profile] emee & I watched Stonehenge Apocalypse in Glitter Font.

It is really really really as bad as it sounds.

So, of course, I not only loved it, I'm going to make Don watch it on Sunday before letting him watch the next episode of Doctor Who.

I am meaner than you.
trouble: Cartoonish figure of a woman with "Anna doesn't care if he's evil, he's hot" (Anna Doesn't Care If He's Evil)
Don went into the hospital today for his scheduled Radioactive Iodine Treatment. This should be fine. There is a - get this, you'll love it - a small, previously-undiscussed chance that his lone working vocal cord will stop working due to swelling & inflammation caused by the treatment, and if that happens his voice will be "wispy" for a while. This is a) rare and b) temporary.

On the other hand, the chance that his one vocal cord would get frozen in the first place was a) rare and b) temporary.

I honestly just laughed at the doctor when he said that, because it is so obviously going to happen to Don because Don's body just does that. "Ooh, something can go wrong! Awesome! I'll get right on that!"

Anyway. I'm a bit punch drunk and really not up to normal conversation at this point, so a few details:

Hey, have I mentioned that Harding Medical Supplies, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is an incompetent wheelchair repair place? I bet I haven't mentioned this in at least a few days.

That's right, Harding Medical Supplies, a wheelchair repair center in Halifax, Nova Scotia, continues to not repair wheelchairs! Isn't that awesome?

The latest is that they still haven't received all the parts (but wow, do they know who I am when I call now, because apparently I must call them - they cannot be expected to call us with information). The parts we were promised would take "five to seven days" to deliver.

Harding Medical Supplies has now had Don's wheelchair for more than three weeks. That's FIFTEEN business days. They never return our calls. They never call to give us updates. They never give me information until I ask for it several times.

The latest person I have talked to SWEARS up and down and sideways that she's on the phone RIGHT NOW with the part manufacturer to find out where the parts are, because apparently no one at Harding Medical Supplies had noticed it had been significantly longer than their promised turn-around time and called the manufacturer previously.

She SWEARS she is going to call Don (while I'm in class) as soon as she is off the phone with them. SWEARS.

Because I have NEVER been promised a call back from Harding Medical Supplies that I haven't received in the past. I'm sure I offended her with my demand that someone at Harding Medical Supplies take responsibility for the complete mess this wheelchair repair has become.

Harding Medical Supplies, folks. For when you don't really need a wheelchair in a reasonable amount of time.

{Don is not going to have the chair before his surgery next week.}

To put this in complete perspective for you: Don has now been without his power chair for over a month. For a few days I was able to push him where he wanted/needed to go, but overall I cannot do this - I am not at home right now, and won't be home for several hours. He's stuck in the house, between AirCanada breaking his wheelchair and Harding Medical Supplies refusing to actually repair the wheelchair.

And now, here we are, a beautiful day, Don's mom coming on Sunday, the surgery on Wednesday, and Don has been basically trapped in the house (against his will) for a month.

Way to go, Harding Medical Supplies. You win.
